Miracles Big and Small

Sunday, May 27th, 2012

Webster’s dictionary has three definitions for the word miracle

1. an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs
2. an extremely outstanding or unusual event, thing, or accomplishment
3. a divinely natural phenomenon experienced humanly as the fulfillment of spiritual law

Are you someone who believes in miracles? Do you pay attention and keep track of the miracles that cross your path? Do you often count small coincidences as miracles? If you live like your life is full of miracles, you may just notice more miracles appearing. That’s how the Law of Attraction works.

I find myself noticing lots of coinidences. Last weekend while hosting a women’s retreat at Lakeside, it was astounding to me how miracles kept rolling in like waves to the shoreline. Allow me to share my favorite three below:

1. The plumber I hired arrived to remedy a problem at the Lakeside house where our presenters would be staying arrived exactly at the time I had been told to expect him AND finished the job completely within 10 minutes. (I know, you might say that wasn’t a miracle, but my experience with other service calls tells me it is clearly a #2 variety miracle)

2. While taking a spontaneous walk, I met up with Carmel Lapa, who had also just arrived in Lakeside. Within 3 minutes of meeting Carmel, Jenny Earley also appeared on the path. Carmel mentioned wishing she had some coffee. Since I had some hot coffee in a caraffe back at my house, we agreed to walk in that direction. While we walked, I shared that a family of foxes had been spotted recently near 3rd street. We chose to take a route down 3rd so that we might see them. Sure enough, we heard some rustling and soon found 4 kits and the mother playing in a garden on Plum Street near 3rd. What a joy it was to watch these little babies romp, tumble and entertain us for a full 10 minutes, oblivious to our gaze. The coincidences that brought the three of us to that place and that outstanding sight qualifies as a #2 miracle as well. Coincidentally, nearly all of the other retreat participants saw the foxes during a morning walk the following day. Many photos and a video were taken to document this joyful experience

3. On Saturday morning, our agenda included a class in Tai Chi. Because the weather was so warm and beautiful, our instructor Roseann chose to move class to the Lakeside Dock. There were very few people out at this time of day, which provided a peaceful setting for our class. As we began moving to Roseann’s instructions, the sound of a beautiful violin solo came soaring on the breeze from a man playing on a bench along the lake. We had the perfect musical accompanyment for the movement of chi. Curiously, only 2 minutes after our class ended, the violin ceased and the dock area filled with busloads of boisterous teenagers visiting Lakeside for a band concert. Had they arrived any sooner, it would not have been the same relaxing experience. Divine timing had worked to perfection! This certainly felt like at #1 miracle, although some might call it a coincidence.

I’ll just go out on a limb and say that all of the above are #1 category miracles. I’m one of those people who chooses to know that a Divine power is at work in all things. My prayers invite the Divine to play and create in my world. Not every prayer is answered, however it would appear that many are.

Shortly after returning from the retreat, I recieved news that the son of one of my dearest friends had been diagnosed with a brain tumor. I am hurting for my friend and her family as they face the tests and medical interventions ahead. Is this too, just another Divine intervention taking place in our physical world? I assure myself that there is a bigger picture at work and that yet another miracle is unfolding.

More than a Fountain of Youth – Five Exercises That Change Your Life

Betsy Demonstrates the 5 Tibetans

If you happen to be age 40 or older, you have probably noticed that your body is beginning to develop a few signs of aging. For some, it may be wrinkles, sagging skin and fatigue. For others it may be uncomfortable physical symptoms, forgetfulness, pain or a loss of function. Could it be that all these symptoms are really signs of energy imbalances or blocks? What if there was something we could do as part of our daily self-care routine to minimize aging and prolong our youth? It’s about time you heard about the Five Tibetan Fountain of Youth exercises! I stumbled upon them over 10 years ago and became a believer. They may be the reason I am so healthy and passionate about personal energy health. Here’s a little history about how I came to be introduced to this daily practice:

Back in 2000, shortly after my fortieth birthday, I began to think that I might be slowing down a bit, starting the process of aging, and beginning to lose my youthful assets and abilities. Some of the thoughts came from a place of vanity and fear, along with a tinge of regret.

As part of my job doing business development for an integrative medical practice, I was given the task of identifying the most popular alternative health books available. In my research, I discovered a book titled The Ancient Secrets of the Fountain of Youth by Peter Kelder. This book claimed that by doing five simple exercises every day, anyone could rev up their human energy system. The practice of doing the exercises would allow the body to maintain a youthful appearance and function, even though it might be advancing in age. The exercises were said to keep hair from turning gray! I was immediately intrigued and quickly made a trip to acquire the book.

I began practicing the five Tibetan exercises immediately. I did them first thing each morning upon waking. It surprised me how challenging they were considering that I been working out regularly and believed I had excellent health before adding the five exercises to my routine. I noticed that I was developing better core body strength and flexibility too. The exercises helped me to feel better and better each day.

Curiously, something else began happening. I began having strange dreams. It seemed to me that these exercises had evoked something beyond the physical. Something seemingly spiritual began stirring inside me and I realized that I was becoming very intuitive. I found this a little unsettling. I tried to dismiss the intrusive thoughts and the guiding voices that now had appeared in my life and which seemed to be speaking to me incessantly. I also found myself getting goosebumps constantly, as if my body had become a lightning rod for energetic information. This was all very new and a bit frightening to me!

The exercises changed my life indeed and if you choose to try them, you should be forewarned of their power.

You will find them challenging – please check with your healthcare professional to make sure you are fit enough for this type of exercise

Your side-effects may include weight-loss, better sleep, less pain, a trimmer middle, hormone balance, younger looking hair, more stamina and enjoy a greater sense of well-being.

You will become more physically and emotionally aware. Your body will bring things to your attention and you may find your emotions and intuition perking up. That is all good and nothing to fear. Be open and curious about it. Allow your physical and emotional awareness to guide your decisions and choices. Important clues to your life purpose will become clear to you as you continue your practice of the exercises.

I certainly haven’t answered all of life’s questions yet, but have found an exquisite sense of peace around the mysteries of death, aging and the potential for life eternal. Miraculous teachers, friends and resources have been placed on my path to guide and bring comfort. In case you are wondering – I am feeling younger and healthier than ever AND I still do those 5 Tibetan exercises every single day. I don’t intent to ever stop.

Ask and Receive (Repeat Often)

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

Lately I have been feeling a lot like a beggar. You see, I went and entered a contest which required me to ask my friends, family, clients, associates and total strangers to vote for my book, Energy Makeover. Asking takes effort. Asking feels weak. Asking means I’m nothing without their help. Asking is humbling. I do it anyway, as hard as it is, because I know that asking is necessary to take a stand for what I am called to do.

Excuse me a second so I can take a moment to ask again – You see, the contest ends at Midnight on Monday June 28!

Will you help me?

Please vote for my book at http://www.nexttopauthor.com/profile.cfm?aid=799

I have also been doing a whole lot of receiving lately simply because I asked for help. Whether or not I make it as one of the 25 lucky authors who advance to Round 3 in the Next Top Author Contest, my heart has been warmed and my confidence stroked by hundreds of friends who wrote, called, texted and posted on my Facebook wall. When I asked for help, they responded and they did so with warmth and affection. Nobody threatened me, got mad or told me I was dumb. Why was I expecting that might happen? It does make me wonder if irrational thoughts and fears get in the way of my best experiences in other areas of life.

Due to this lesson in asking and receiving, I will choose to repeat both more often. I will do it anyway, even when I’m scared. Repeating a process that works is the real progress.

In summary, the lesson today is:

Asking takes effort. The return on the effort is enormous

Asking feels weak, but the weakness is temporary. Receiving soon restores the power and balance

Asking means I’m nothing without their help. Life is richest only through connection and service to others

Asking is humbling. I choose to remain humble

Whether I advance in the contest or not, my book will be published, people know what it’s about and they are excited about reading it when it becomes available. I call that a winner and I’m sticking with that!

Something is Out There!

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

ife is full of surprises and possibilities. My recent trip to the spiritualist community of Lily Dale, NY deepened my awareness of the connection between the physical world and the invisible spiritual realm that exists in parallel. We as humans are limited to experiencing a limited range of “frequencies” with our senses. It is certainly possible that other “beings” are out there operating in difference bandwidths. Something that occurs to me is that expanding human consciousness is exposing many of us who to some new frequencies. Certain places like Lily Dale, New York, Sedona Arizona and Lakeside Ohio may allow frequencies to merge and bandwidths to collide more easily. The energy vortex theories associated with hundreds of sacred places around the globe seem to make sense, although I doubt anyone has published scientific proof.

Whether this force out there is pure energy, God, angels, the souls of loved ones or even extraterrestrial beings could be debated at length. In Lily Dale, I found myself pondering Carl Sagan’s movie “Contact” and how the lines between physical, non-physical, time, space, life and death may blur in the depths of the unknown. The more we know, the less we really know! What is clear is that so many of us are seeking answers to some difficult questions and looking for solutions for problems that make our lives difficult.  If there is a wise intelligent source out there offering free information for our benefit, then it is worth paying attention.  Perhaps this is the same voice that spoke to Einstein, Edison and Mother Theresa.

I experienced an abundance of miracles, both large and small during three short days in Lily Dale. I noticed them with a sense of wonder. I don’t need science to convince me these were real because I have my own personal “knowing” experience. These included:

· Healing sessions at the Healing Temple

· Magical beauty of the fairy trail

· A personal message from my grandmother at Inspiration Stump

· A warm presence that surrounded us on the evening ghost walk

· Brightness of the stars

· A glorious sunset

· Mysterious moving lights in the forest

· The power and simplicity of Qigong

· Great teachers who lead by example, notably Robert Peng, Sharon Klingler and John White who helped me see energy and mediums in a whole new way.

· Bright orbs in my photos

· Voices that spoke to me as I tried to sleep at the Maplewood Hotel

My left brain and that science-trained mind want to reject what my heart and experience tells me is true. As I gather these miracles, the more I know I must trust my heart. God created all of this, and God can never be measured, as hard as science may try. There will always be more yet to be revealed.

I intend to share more about this “other side” in my speaking and writing . There is something out there trying to communicate and connect with us and there is no reason to be afraid. It is the voice that inspires my best creative work. It is there to help you too.

Good things will happen as you and I take notice. The survival of our planet and species may indeed depend on it!

Creating the Space for Miracles

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

One of the essential concepts that I try to practice and teach as a healing professional has to do with preparing the right environment or “sacred space” to contain the process. Certainly any purposeful gathering of people can improve considerably if we simply take a moment to be fully present and set the stage for what is to come. This applies to business meetings, classes, lectures, small groups, one on one client sessions AND for your own self-care routines, meditation or prayer routine. It is a process of deliberate presence.

Honoring that each person has their own unique set of beliefs and background, setting the stage includes respectfully allowing each person to feel comfortable in the environment. It is up to you to choose how you will create a space for your own miracles. I offer the following ideas for your consideration. Pick one or several. Consider the context of your goals, the participants and certainly be practical. There are many paths to the right answer. Go in with the intention of creating a space that builds rapport, creates safety and allows comfort.

1. Clear the energy in the space. Open a window, light a candle, burn incense, use essential oils or smudge with sage or sweetgrass to clear and prepare spaces for healing work. Soft lighting, sounds, music, tones, chimes, and voice can also be helpful in shifting the energy to a more healing nature.  You can also clear the energy by simply setting a clearing intention.

2. Pause to breathe and become present. You might choose to place your palms over the heart. Close the eyes and be fully in your body. Honor whatever you may feel and accept it as your present truth. Consider the power we could bring to our business meetings if we simply took a moment to breathe before we jumped into the agenda!

3. Set intentions. Ask for space and time to create a positive experience. Know what you want to do. In business we have agendas. In your healing work you can also have an agenda, but consider it a “soft” one based on your intentions rather than a specific outcome.

4. Connect with a higher power. Honoring the beliefs of those involved, this can include God, Divine Mother, Jesus, archangels, angels, guides, power animals, universal life force energy or healing symbols.

5. Anchor the Space. Some healers like to invoke a pyramid of light anchored at each corner by a powerful archangel. Others may prefer to invoke a bubble of light. You may also choose to bring in an image of a special healing place that you carry in your heart. Think of this part as establishing a container that can safely hold the energy of what is about to occur.

6. Ask for resources. As you create the perfect setting, open yourself to intuition, ideas, help, synchronicity, and opportunity. Imagine that you are opening a door and all that you need is lining up to support you. What would you like to have access to if the answer was “yes”?

7. Surrender and Release. Let go of what you can’t control, what seems impossible, the distractions, the disappointments, and those long-standing battles with your tormentors. Be aware of what has drained you and give it up for healing and transformation.

8. Affirm. Begin to see what you desire as if it has already happened and already exists. This can be a bank balance, a published book, a vacation, an important decision, a partner or a physical miracle of your choosing. Create words of affirmation, express gratitude and accept the energy of the blessing you are creating in your mind.

9. Engage in the Work. Whether it is a healing intervention, a meeting or a group seminar, this is where you conduct your program. Your time of preparation helps each person participate in and witness the process more fully. Some healing will have likely happened before you even began this step.

10. Close with gratitude and reverence.  Be thankful for the time and resources that came together. Remain hopeful about those things may not yet be complete. Appreciate the experience for what it was.
