What Can You Change in 30 Days?

Friday, September 14th, 2012

As you read the title of this blog, I wonder what jumped into your mind.

Is there anything you would change about your life if you knew you could succeed and do it quickly?

I have always been a no-nonsense coach who likes to help people transform quickly and comfortably using human energy self-care systems. Thirty days is what I have been asking people to consider as a reasonable time-frame for transforming 2-3 major life challenges or goals when they choose to work with me. That’s far less than most coaches ask for client engagement.

I’m actually starting to re-think the 30-day mark. Why? Because it has been just 30 days since I returned from Soul Detective Level 3 training with Barbara Stone PhD, and I have witnessed some pretty amazing things that have happened after a single intervention. While I am trying to make sense of it all, I am convinced that we are living at a time when healing can happen even faster than I have previously been taught to believe.

What’s different? I have now experienced and facilitated energy healing at the soul level. The boundaries of time shatter when you step into this realm. This is work at a sacred level where I let go and just ask questions with Divine guidance providing the plan. Everything requires permission and very gentle respect. I know I am not in charge, but simply facilitating some work for much higher beings. It is humbling and also kind of fun. I never know where it will go, but my faith increases with each encounter.

Here’s just a bit of what I have witnessed in the last 30 Days:

• A depressed and grief-stricken professional is smiling, fully engaged and hopeful again, after months in a deep funk. The healing happened quite immediately and without medication. You can see the sparkle in her eyes and it touches your soul. Others have noticed the significant change and commented to me about the transformation.

• A colleague who was feeling stagnant with her business and plagued with self-doubt and distractions has found clarity and direction. She felt odd for a day after our session, but then saw business lining up easily and doors are opening. She is has more focus too.

• An energy healer who is working a stressful corporate job is no longer smoking, breathing more easily and feels alive again. Her confidence level has jumped to new heights. She is ready to start a business.

• A businessman struggling with family stress is feeling more relaxed and hopeful than he can remember. A heavy issue that has been haunting him since high school has evaporated.

• A single woman who has been searching for a soul-mate for the past 3 years suddenly finds all sorts of very attractive and eligible men are striking up conversations with her. She feels very hopeful.

• At least 8 earthbound spirits (ghosts) have been re-united with loved ones on the other side.

• Client appointments, referrals and speaking engagements have been coming to my business mysteriously. I have made more trips to the bank to deposit checks than I usually do and the account balances are growing.

• New clients are perfect clients and a joy to work with. Some exciting relationships for long-term partnership are underway for my business as well.

• My personal health, comfort, energy level and sleep have been outstanding. The mental clarity has been amazing too. Clients are reporting similar health shifts.

• There was one negative – my business web site and email were mysteriously obliterated for almost 5 days. None of my experts can tell me why this happened, but fortunately everything has been restored. I suspect the dark forces were not very happy that I had some new tools.

Here’s my theory on what’s going on

I have changed. Removing dark force interverences that were operating within my system were limiting my reach as a healer. Those blocks are gone now. I can do more and my energy level is higher for both my physical life and client facilitation.

The rules have changed! There appears to be a new environment for healing in which a simple request can receive a huge dose of Grace as a response. Being as specific as possible in making the request helps direct the energy for the healing. An energy shift that results in an emotional, spiritual and physical healing is rapid and comfortable.

Dark Forces are Open for Negotiation: When considering how to state this properly, the emphasis is on the word negotiation. The new process I am using checks for dark forces, curses, hexes, 666 calibration, ET interference and what some people would call demonic entities. This is not something I ever thought I would want or need to work with. (I believed I was too practical for that stuff – LOL) Now that I am choosing to look for dark force interferences, I am learning that the power of Archangels and the Divine is comfortably situated to negotiate with and transform these forces into forces of good. I can offer some of the preliminary negotiating and the rest is handled by the unseen light.

There is surprisingly little struggle.
The negative just dissolves and joins the troops in the light. I believe this may be a relatively new phenomenon that has emerged and wonder if humankind has been granted a new kind of power from some benevolent force out there. If there is some tipping point that needs to be reached in 2012, maybe that’s part of it too.

What will happen in 30 more days? There’s a Divine power to handle the nasty stuff and I’ll stay present to the life that is unfolding around me. We are all here to be our highest selves, play the part and set good intentions. While we are at it, we can all make sure to ask that every healing is accompanied by a multiplier of good will for all who may suffer from a similar form of pain. That’s the kind of healing that will create heaven on earth.

Honoring the Spirit of Motherhood

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

Every now and then, it appears that the world is conspiring to get my attention. In the past week, I was forced to ponder many stories and images of motherhood. Here are a few of the synchronicities that converged during this time:

• Attended the wake and funeral for the mother of one of my best friends

• Met a darling young family just back from China after adopting their second child “Luke” – a special needs baby with a cleft palete

• Prepared for and presented a program to a group of Nannies for National Nanny Education Day

• Went through old scrapbook of family photos from 2 decades ago, marveling at how well I looked then knowing how exhausted I really was when those photos were taken.

• Had a phone call with a treasured babysitter Peggy, who loved my kids like her own and helped me balance life as a full time worker during my days at BP

• Responded to a call for advice from my adult son

• Pondered what more I might do to help my own mom (and my dad who cares for her) as she struggles with depression and signs of dementia

From all of the above, I found myself marveling at the many ways mothers and the spirit of motherhood change the world for the better. Mothers support, clean, cook, discipline, guide, mentor and nurture. They create a sense of safety, security and connection for their families. Perhaps the biggest wounds mankind suffers happen during moments when the mother is clearly absent, whether that absence means she’s fallen ill, abandoned a child, died, gone off to work, succumbed to depression or been compromised by alcohol or drugs.

In the very best case, other caring souls step in and seamlessly provide the love and care needed to fill the gap created by the missing mother. People do that, not institutions. That certainly was the case when I found Peggy to care for my children, just as it is today with Luke’s adoptive mother. A genetic connection is unnecessary for successful mothering to occur. Men like my dad and husband step into the mother role too when duty calls. The spirit of motherhood might be better defined as unconditional action and care from a place of love, for the benefit of another.

During my phone call with Peggy this week, I asked her if she might share some advice with the nannies in my audience on what she has learned from decades of serving other families as a caregiver. After thinking for a moment, she said, “You know, I remember taking a stroller ride with my little family on September 11, 2001, right after the plane hit the Pentagon. The day was hauntingly quiet. Not a single plane in the air. I found myself thinking, what would I do if I saw a plane falling toward us? I knew immediately. I would throw myself over those children and I would protect them like they were my own. Tell the nannies that!”

Yes, that’s my Peggy and why I still adore her all these years later. She is the spirit of motherhood, the antidote for the missing mother.

It takes a lot of energy to fill the role of mother and that too needs to be honored. When mothers make time for health, balance and positive connections in their lives, the world they nurture gets better too. Sometimes mothers go missing because they are worn out, tired, feeling unappreciated or have health challenges. I was a worn out mother for many years and it is such a relief that my kids seem to have turned out okay in spite of it. Clearly I did not raise them alone. My own mother helped watch my kids one day each week when they were little. I will forever be grateful for that.

My book, Energy Makeover, is a resource to help those weary mothers get more out of each day. It is my sincere desire to put this book in to the hands of more mothers. If you know of any weary moms or grandmothers in need of a boost, let them know about the book. Hopefully someone will also offer to mind the kids so that they have time to read it!

There’s a little mother in all of us. Look for ways to engage the spirit of motherhood in your daily life and support those weary mothers too. When we nurture ourselves and extend that same compassion to others, there is more energy for mothering, and a shining example for generations to come.

Energizing a Group Planning Process

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

You’ve probably heard the statement “Begin with the end in mind” sometime in your life. It is a great guiding principle and also one you might fail to use when getting caught up in the many details that are part of planning and goal setting. When a group is involved in creating a plan, you know the process can be even more complicated as various parties jockey to get their ideas heard and incorporated. Like me, you’ve probably endured far too many meetings wondering if a plan would ever be conceived.

I want to offer a ray of hope today by sharing a group planning process I was part of recently that surprised even me. It happened at a ranch up in the mountains of Arizona with my fellow ACEP board members for our annual planning retreat. This would be my 4th board retreat and I came in expecting that it would be like the others – with lengthy discussions, a few conflicts and eventually some decisions reached just because we were running out of time. Perhaps it was the clear, still mountain air that helped this time, because 2012 was different!

This year we began our meeting by selecting three visions of what we wanted to see completed in the next 2-3 years, including a representative image of what that successful completion would look like for each of these. We immediately started rolling with ideas and agreement. Images of success were quickly noted on our flip charts and a list of dreams was compatible, and also quite synergistic. We created visual symbols of each success and reached unanimous approval. Instead of moving on at that point, we stopped and had one of our board members lead us in a meditative visualization so that we all might fully visualize these outcomes from a place of joy and openness, trusting that the specifics would be handled. We put each of our energies into the vision and expanded that vision to the highest good for all involved, allowing this or something better to happen.

At the end of this visualization, we had the structure and guidance for the smaller details. It was amazing how the goals and decisions flowed very well from there. Action items that facilitated the outcome were reached and responsibilities were clearly assigned. Our plans were quite complete before the time ran out and more importantly we came up with some very exciting plans.

Time will tell whether our visions will become a reality, but I have a sense that the probability of success is high. This process also allowed a more respectful and productive meeting. We put energy into this plan and walked our walk as energy healers in the highest sense.

Maybe you have a meeting ahead that would benefit from this process too. If you would like to track the success of ACEP in the months ahead, I encourage you to join the mailing list at www.energypsych.org . Better yet, come to our conference in California on Coronado Island, June 1-3. I’ll be there and you’ll love the energy of the people, learning opportunities and this beautiful location. Insulating Your Energy for the Up-Coming Holidays

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

Do you know what the top 3 energy drains are?

If you knew, would you make different choices?

As we head into the upcoming holiday season and our dark, winter here in NE Ohio, we think about shielding ourselves from the cold, energy inefficiency and drafts. We insulate our homes, change our filters, order furnace maintenance and begin shopping and housekeeping for the busy season ahead. Are you scheduling self-care into this agenda to make sure that YOU are shielded and energetically insulated for this very busy time of the year? If you care about sustainable human energy, consider the following.

Limit time with people who drain you. Think about how you can say no or limit your exposure to them.

Ask for help, even before you need it. Could someone help you clean, shop, cook, rake or entertain guests? It’s more fun when you don’t go it alone.

Shift your attention to things that are positive. Remember what Thanksgiving is all about. Say “thanks” often. Little things are always going well in your life. Make a point to notice a kind gesture, that your car starts, the heat works, you have warm place to sleep and food in your pantry. You have comfort!

Offer your talents to the world. Could you help someone who is having a rough time? Is there a way you could bring a smile to someone else and do it with EASE? Speak up and act. You are the gift someone is waiting for!

In my book the top 3 energy drains are:

1. Energy Vampires
2. Trying to Control incontrollable things
3. Isolation/Disconnection

Faith in the Invisible

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1

Today is Good Friday, a day when we are aware of Jesus’ suffering. A day when Jesus’ followers lost hope and slipped into grief as they helplessly witnessed the crucifixion. We can all connect to the sadness of that human moment, yet know that many invisible things took place after the crucifixion to restore the faith that was lost. Life triumphed over death.

The quote above was given to me on a beautiful plaque by a grateful client several years ago. It hangs in my office today as a constant reminder that my life purpose, mission and my business are all about the invisible, unseen forces that enrich and shift our lives.

Reality exists in both visible and invisible form. We can’t necessarily see love or grief, but it truly exists all around us. Emotions and the energy they carry are strong enough to get our attention and make us pause to check in with the invisible world. Emotions of love, hope, joy and bliss are powerful projectors of energy. Those feelings are radiant and hard to miss. The signals of grief, despair, depression and hopelessness form tight and constricted energy fields around the one in pain. It is harder to pick up on these things because the signal is so weak. If anything, we simply feel that pull from a low energy person that comes when they drain our energy in an effort to replenish their own. It can happen deliberately, or it can happen unintentionally on their part. Either way it is their way of trying to heal their own pain.

Many of my friends, subscribers and colleagues know that I am in the midst of writing a new book titled Energy Makeover. I have been saying “no” to lots of things in order to make this book a priority. There is an invisible force telling me that I must do it NOW, as much as I don’t consider myself much of a writer and I worry that the world may not even want to read what I write. I do it anyway. That is perhaps what faith will inspire within a struggling soul.

Pay attention and minister to the silent pain that is around you today. Your awareness will guide you to serve in a way that fits who you are. For a little more inspiration, watch this excellent short video titled “Get Service” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfeXxkbgCVE

Two Energy Tips for Monday Oct. 11

More than a Fountain of Youth – Five Exercises That Change Your Life

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Betsy Demonstrates the 5 Tibetans

If you happen to be age 40 or older, you have probably noticed that your body is beginning to develop a few signs of aging. For some, it may be wrinkles, sagging skin and fatigue. For others it may be uncomfortable physical symptoms, forgetfulness, pain or a loss of function. Could it be that all these symptoms are really signs of energy imbalances or blocks? What if there was something we could do as part of our daily self-care routine to minimize aging and prolong our youth? It’s about time you heard about the Five Tibetan Fountain of Youth exercises! I stumbled upon them over 10 years ago and became a believer. They may be the reason I am so healthy and passionate about personal energy health. Here’s a little history about how I came to be introduced to this daily practice:

Back in 2000, shortly after my fortieth birthday, I began to think that I might be slowing down a bit, starting the process of aging, and beginning to lose my youthful assets and abilities. Some of the thoughts came from a place of vanity and fear, along with a tinge of regret.

As part of my job doing business development for an integrative medical practice, I was given the task of identifying the most popular alternative health books available. In my research, I discovered a book titled The Ancient Secrets of the Fountain of Youth by Peter Kelder. This book claimed that by doing five simple exercises every day, anyone could rev up their human energy system. The practice of doing the exercises would allow the body to maintain a youthful appearance and function, even though it might be advancing in age. The exercises were said to keep hair from turning gray! I was immediately intrigued and quickly made a trip to acquire the book.

I began practicing the five Tibetan exercises immediately. I did them first thing each morning upon waking. It surprised me how challenging they were considering that I been working out regularly and believed I had excellent health before adding the five exercises to my routine. I noticed that I was developing better core body strength and flexibility too. The exercises helped me to feel better and better each day.

Curiously, something else began happening. I began having strange dreams. It seemed to me that these exercises had evoked something beyond the physical. Something seemingly spiritual began stirring inside me and I realized that I was becoming very intuitive. I found this a little unsettling. I tried to dismiss the intrusive thoughts and the guiding voices that now had appeared in my life and which seemed to be speaking to me incessantly. I also found myself getting goosebumps constantly, as if my body had become a lightning rod for energetic information. This was all very new and a bit frightening to me!

The exercises changed my life indeed and if you choose to try them, you should be forewarned of their power.

You will find them challenging – please check with your healthcare professional to make sure you are fit enough for this type of exercise

Your side-effects may include weight-loss, better sleep, less pain, a trimmer middle, hormone balance, younger looking hair, more stamina and enjoy a greater sense of well-being.

You will become more physically and emotionally aware. Your body will bring things to your attention and you may find your emotions and intuition perking up. That is all good and nothing to fear. Be open and curious about it. Allow your physical and emotional awareness to guide your decisions and choices. Important clues to your life purpose will become clear to you as you continue your practice of the exercises.

I certainly haven’t answered all of life’s questions yet, but have found an exquisite sense of peace around the mysteries of death, aging and the potential for life eternal. Miraculous teachers, friends and resources have been placed on my path to guide and bring comfort. In case you are wondering – I am feeling younger and healthier than ever AND I still do those 5 Tibetan exercises every single day. I don’t intent to ever stop.

Empty Nest – Now What?

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

As the kids head back to school, parents and especially the new empty nesters will experience a variety of changes which can bring with them a variety of emotions. My daughter returned to her second year of college this weekend and I find myself on a bit of an emotional roller coaster as I realize I have the house to myself again. It’s peaceful and it is also lonely. The energy has shifted and I’m getting used to it. There’s nobody to blame now. If I can’t concentrate – it is all my fault! It is a situation asking for some awareness, appreciation and balance.

I’ve been through this before and I know the up-sides. There is this giddiness about having more time to do what I want, to be more self-focussed and less structured. There is also a richer relationship with my husband and a true sense of pride that my kids are equipped to succeed, even without me around.

There are low points too. There is the new financial pressure of college bills, fewer family meal-times, smaller grocery lists and stillness where there was once so much banging and thumping. I seem to be tripping over the dog and cat constantly, as I am the only one they have left to follow around.

I was feeling so peaceful and a little lonely this AM in my empty nest…..till I got in the shower, washed my hair and realized my daughter had removed my favorite hair conditioner. As the anger boiled, I replaced it with gratitude. Things will stay where I put them till Thanksgiving!

Taming the Alien

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Has anyone else out there recently looked down and noticed that your tummy is bigger than it used to be? Maybe you’ve had to adjust your belt notches or go up a waist size? Was there a time when you had a nice flat stomach but now find you can’t even hold it in anymore? Are you finding that this belly bump is more resistant than you remember to all the things that used to work to remove it? Me too!

When I was forced to cut down on exercise a few months ago due to a knee injury and subsequent surgery, I wasn’t too surprised that my waist expanded. I told myself that as soon as summer came, I’d be back in shape quickly. And come back, I did. I was lifting weights, running every other morning and attending Jazzercise classes 4+ times a week. To my chagrin, the belly was decidedly not budging. I couldn’t even suck it in when I tried. This belly of mine had a mind of its own. Nothing that used to work in my 51 years of life seemed to make any difference. This was odd.

Before Jazzercise class one day, I confided my frustration to a friend a few years my senior. I mentioned that I might need to see a doctor to rule out a tumor. She burst out laughing, patted her tummy and said “You’ve got THE ALIEN! Look around Betsy…..most women over 50 have THE ALIEN. It’s got the men too. Welcome to the club!”

So that’s what it is! We, the aging adults of the U.S.A. are harboring an army of alien invaders, preparing to emerge on some unforeseen day in the future to take over the world. I’m not buying that one quite yet, but I am more curious than ever about what can be done for this epidemic of bloated bellies.

You see, I have been mildly obsessed about health, beauty and fitness most of my life. Five years ago I developed a special energy coaching class called “Waist Management” that worked quite well for me and my students. Unfortunately, I have not taught that class in over a year. Could that be part of my problem? I have also been a lifetime member of Weight Watchers since 1991, but haven’t attended a meeting in over 7 years. I recognize my less than stellar track record on behavior.

AH HAH! It is time that I refreshed my memory on some of the basics behaviors that fuel a flatter tummy. I need structure and support to do it. As I heighten my own awareness and intentions. I’ve re-enrolled in Weight Watchers, retaken my measurements and begun to scrutinize my habits. So far, there are 5 principles to “Taming the Alien” that I want to pass along so that you too are armed for belly battle.

1. You Must Measure It You cannot document success (or failure) unless you know where things stand. Get out a measuring tape and document both your waist and your hip measurement. As I write this today, my waist is 27.5 inches and my hips are 37.5 inches. That gives me a 0.73 Waist-Hip Ratio. This ratio is important to know. Clinical studies affirm that an expanding waist size brings significant health risks. Women with waist-hip ratio of 0.7 or less have optimal levels of estrogen and are less susceptible to major diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disorders and ovarian cancers. Men with waist hip ratios around 0.9, similarly, have been shown to be more healthy and fertile with less prostate and testicular cancer. Furthermore, the waist hip ratio is a better measure of assessing a person’s risk of heart attack than body mass index.

2. Structure and Accountability There are bulging consequences when portion sizes and food choices go unchecked for long periods of time. My long-term affiliation with Weight Watchers is something I am very grateful for. So many of my excellent habits, including drinking plenty of water, eating breakfast, reading food labels, regular meals, increasing fresh fruits and vegetables and giving up soda pop are due to what I learned and changed while following this program over the years. In spite of that, I have gotten lax in my approach and I know it. Now that I have begun writing down everything I eat and measuring my servings it has been astounding. I was eating way too much, but now I know where I need to be! As a woman over 50, I was also quite bummed to discover that Weight Watchers allows me fewer daily points on the program than when I last attended meetings. Speaking of meetings, the structure of being accountable and witnessed on the scale at Weight Watchers meetings is a big motivator when I am tempted to cheat.

3. Stress and Emotional Eating Stress comes in many forms – work, traffic, relationships, environment and even imaginary things we worry about. Stress makes us fat, particularly in the belly area. This is because stress causes our adrenal glands to pump out excesses of the hormone cortisol, which mobilizes our energy reserves so our body is more efficient at storing fat for basic survival. Even though our stressors are rarely life-threatening, our bodies behave as though death is waiting around the next bend. On top of this, we eat too much when we finally get a break, choose fast and unhealthy foods and often eat just because we are sad, bored or lonely. Sitting in on Weight Watchers meetings has given me a great appreciation for how prevalent stress is among people carrying extra weight. They talk about it openly and are desperately looking for help. My heart goes out to them. Many mention that food is the main source of their relief. I think the WW meetings help, but fall short in providing self-care solutions for stress. Until you get your stress and emotions under control, your are going to be miserable and probably not as successful as you could be at weight loss.

I am so lucky to have found tools like Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and HeartMath to keep my stress in check. Both EFT and HeartMath’s quick coherence technique work quickly and effectively to relieve stress without drugs or side effects. I have used these tools with my clients to release soda pop addictions, boost exercise motivation and to suppress sugar cravings and late night munching. I am compelled to share these self-care tools with more people because they are so natural, practical and sensible.

4. You’ve Got to Move We all know exercise helps keep our belly under control. Crunches and abdominal exercises alone won’t do it. Sporadic fitness won’t do it either. You really do need a regular combination of aerobic, strength and core work to get the system optimized for belly loss. If you used to get away with only 2-3 workouts a week, you may find you need 5-6 a week to maintain your shape as you age. The key is finding something you like, that works with your schedule and which you can follow regularly. Brisk walking is a great way to start if you are a beginning. Jazzercise is an excellent program I’ve enjoyed regularly for over 14 years. Having home fitness equipment is great too. Find a solution that works for you and stick to it.

5. Don’t Go Into Battle Alone It’s interesting to me that when I mentioned my Waist Management course at a business networking event last week, I was met with an outpouring of interest. Yes, I have support from Weight Watchers meetings, yet I also I realized that when I teach and mentor, I have even more company as I embrace and fully follow the program. There’s something about knowing that you are not alone that really is motivating and supportive. Friends lift you up on the hard days and also help celebrate your success when those inches come off. That is a huge part of the fun. Looking around, I see lots of people of my generation in need of a little belt-tightening and willing to embark on changing their waist measurement. I know I can help them. Maybe you can too, just by inviting them to join you in this journey toward better health. Waist Management is making a comeback – although I may change the class name to “Taming the Alien”.

I will keep you posted on my discoveries and progress over the coming weeks. Let me know how you are doing too. I am happy to accept new friends on Facebook or LinkedIn. I may offer a tele-class version of the Waist Management course using weekly calls, audios and video. You are invited to join my mailing list at www.theindigoconnection.com so you’ll know when the next class begins.
