Inspired by Lakeside

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

I’m back home again after a delightful week by the lake.  Part of it was business, but most was about relaxing and enjoying the beauty of nature and the kind people who fill this place.  During the week I walked over 50 miles, celebrated my parent’s 50th wedding anniversary, played miniature golf with my neice and nephew, rode a bike, ran, learned to use my iPod (finally!!!), hosted the Indigo Connection group for the Tour of Homes, made jewelry and sat in the 2nd row for the Jim Brickman concert.  Visiting Lakeside is always like stepping back in time.  I feel like a kid here and I sleep like a rock after each full day of relaxed living. If you are ever in the Sandusky region, it is well worth checking out (www.lakesideohio.com)

I was inspired to write the poem below as I sat by the Lake on Wednesday July 25, 2007:

 Waves of Connection

I am here – planted firmly

Now is my moment

All agreements accepted

My soles draw strength from earth

Infusing my spirit with a spiral wave

In stillness there is power

I am connected at all times to Light

Flowing through my crown – reaching my soul at my heart

The Alchemy of Heaven and Earth spins pure radiance

Every soul offers a signal – No two alike

We remember what touches our hearts

As the chorus of waves invites connection

Training for The 3Day

Friday, July 20th, 2007

I am sitting here at my desk feeling grateful for my chair and the ability to be off my feet at last.  Why?  Because I have walked 33 miles in the last 35 hours.  That sounds crazy doesn’t it!  Actually I chose to do this deliberately and I didn’t do it alone.  I’m part of Team Celebrate Life and we’re training so that we can walk 60 miles in 3 days on August 17-19.  I am deeply grateful for Dianna, Carol, Christine and Kim who were my walking buddies this week.   Walking with these amazing women helped the time fly and has created a warm bond of support that will continue to strengthen as we train together.

I’m blogging today to share some of my awareness about what it feels like to walk many miles over many hours.  First, let me say that I seriously underestimated how rough this is.  As someone who runs and works out regularly, I thought this would be no big deal. I am humbled and I was wrong.

Here’s  my top 10 list on why walking is hard:

1. I have flat feet

2. Walking long distances takes a really long time.

3.  You have to get up really early to get this kind of walking done, and you still miss most of the day.

4. My feet are red and swollen

5. Walking in pouring rain is annoying

6. Bathroom facilities on the road can be gross and far between

7.  Aching hips.

8.  Mud on the back of my legs

9.  Toenails hurt

10. Hobbling like a grandma isn’t sexy

There are however some amazing bright spots I cannot neglect to report.  How about another top ten list!

1.  The beauty of nature holds surprises at every turn

2.  My body can do this

3.  Good shoes that fit well

4.  Thorlos socks!!!!!

5.  Courteous and friendly people throughout the Metroparks path system (I love how everyone says good morning)

6. Yummy snacks throughout our walks

7.  Plenty of calories burned – My license to eat

8.  UnderArmor fabric performs exceptionally with either sweat or rainstorms

9.  Learning and connecting with amazing women as we walk

10. We are making a difference.  We will beat breast cancer  through our support.  Each of us is raising over $2,200 and learning about prevention, treatment and survival as we participate.

Fire the Grid

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

On July 17, 2007 at 7:11 EST I participated in a collective sending of energy – Fire the Grid.  Maybe you heard about it or participated in some way too.  A group of about 30 of us gathered that morning at Inner Harmony, the wellness facility where I have my office.  The instructions for the morning were fairly simple – we were to meditate for one hour with the intention of sending the energy of joy and love to the earth and all of its inhabitants.  By doing so, we allow the energy grid of the earth to repair, grow stronger, and to connect all living things in a more harmonious way.

As an energy practitioner this all makes perfect sense – everything is energy and everything is connected to common source energy.  When energy flows freely without hindrance or blockage, it connects, heals and nurtures.  When energy is interrupted, there can be decay, isolation, stagnation and sadness.   Anyone reading the paper might easily conclude that there are significant interruptions in the energy of our planet at this time.

Yesterday I enjoyed connecting to the grid and envisioning a better flow for all of life.  I spent the first 10-15 minutes of meditation in stillness and quiet, then found myself getting fidgetty.  I eventially moved myself outdoors and lay on the grass near the woods listening to the birds and the leaves as I set the intention of energy flow.  I practiced some yoga poses as I lay there.

It is curious to me that I am seeing energy spirals in my mind.  There is circular energy coming up from the earth, meeting the universal source energy from above and mixing in a spiral of dance which then sends a powerful wave out in all directions, as a drop of water might do as it hits a still pond.  The wave goes out, then returns like waves on a beach as the cycle repeats over and over again.  I used to see only linear energy and now I see 3 dimential spirals.  The meaning is uncertain, but spirals are free flowing and gentle.  This is probably a good thing.  Something may be changing.

During meditation I was reminded that divine guides or angels are near at all times.  I’ve been walking many miles in training for the Breast Cancer 3Day (60 mile) walk, and it made me think of the deer on the edge of the woods that I see peering curiously out at me so close to the path, only on some days.   Were they always there and I just didn’t notice before?  The guides are always there too – I can notice more often and call on their assistance.

“Fire the Grid” was prompted by a Canadian woman, Shelley Yates, who had a dramatic near death experience 2 years ago.  The entire story can be found at www.firethegrid.com and it is worth the read.  You can even see her share her story in video form on UTube.

If you missed 7/17/07, I beleive it is possible to hook up with the grid at your leisure.  Energy doesn’t care what time it is.  Collective sending of energy is powerful, but so is intention.  Do it anyway.  Send love and joy to others, including strangers and hold gratitude in your heart that something so simple can offer so much hope.  There is no risk, only healing.  Pay attention to what happens next and patiently send more love as you wait with faith.
