Balance, Truth & Love

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Let yourself be silently drawn
by the strange pull of what you really love.
It will not lead you astray.
- Rumi

Recently I taught a telecourse with my dear friend Maryam Webster called The Tao of KaChing.  This was a weekly business course that met over several months designed to help holistic business owners create a thriving, ethical business that was a true reflection of themselves.  As a co-creator and facilitator of the program, I knew that I would learn probably more that I would teach while involved in this course – and I did.

Toward the end of the course, I was particularly intrigued by Maryam’s urging for each business owner to create a “signature program”, something they offer that is a true reflection of what their business is about and what they serve and care about deeply.   That sounded really cool, but then again that also required a commitment.  When I say yes to that “signature program”, I must also say no to a slew of other things I might choose to focus on.  One of those deadly sins in business is trying to be all things to all people, yet there is a part of every business owner that holds on to the notion that we must serve this general and larger population so that we have a huge market.  I too needed to let go of that.

It’s been several months since the course ended and I am still pondering what my signature program might be.  I’ve asked the question many ways and filled my morning journal with pages exploring the possibilities.  The answer has been lurking along the edges, but not really revealing itself.

Yesterday I began asking the question a different way.  I first asked “What did I agree to learn in this lifetime?”  Next I asked “What lessons have I successfully learned that are needed by those that I serve  – right now?”  The final question was “What is my own truth?”

A light suddenly went on and I was given two words – “Truth” and “Balance”.  Both made perfect sense.  Coincidentally I was working on a presentation for that evening entitled “Muscle Testing Basics  and Interventions for Healthy Energy Balance”.  I immediately saw the connection.

For those not familiar with muscle testing, it is one of many ways to have a conversation with the subconscious mind to discover what is true.  Subtle signals from the neurological system provide a strong muscle response when a subject is posed a question that is “true”, whereas muscle strength is diminished when a question elicits a “false” response.  Often the muscle response will contradict what a person verbally states is their truth.  The muscle test is a “truth detector” of sorts.  The body does not lie.  My experience is that it cannot do so.

For quite some time I resisted using muscle testing with my clients because I was afraid I would spook them with the “woo woo” of this alternative method.  I also didn’t trust my competency as a tester.  It took many more months of study and getting over my own fears of judgement to get to a place where I knew I could reliably test my clients and also to a place where I could easily convey to them that muscle testing was in their best interest as a rapid vehicle for positive change.

Now the wild card here is also balance.  When a person’s energy is not balanced, grounded and centered, it is impossible to conduct reliable muscle testing.  Balance must occur first, before the truth can emerge.  I have emphasized life balance within my practice from the very beginning, but now the element of energy balance was fitting in as well.  Balance in all ways is part of the ultimate solution when I coach.  Each person’s definition of balance is unique and I honor and work with that.

I taught energy balancing and muscle testing for the very first time in my life last night and felt totally and completely alive.  Evidently I have overcome my fear of judgement and incompetency.  It is remarkable to me how easily the words flowed, how I was able to simplify and demonstrate a ton of complex information into a very short time.  I engaged with my audience and opened them to many new possibilities for their own healing benefit in a safe and respectful way.  I felt extreme passion for my material and it showed.  My presentation was love in action.

So how’s this for a fitting signature program?  Balance, Truth and Love.  The theme is emerging and my path is lighting up.  Stay tuned for more.

Reentry Adjustment Week

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

I’ve just returned from a 7 day cruise on the Eastern Caribbean with my family, parents, siblings and their children — 15 of us in all.  We were celebrating my parent’s 50th anniversary and a much needed break from work.  We had our ups and downs, but generally a very nice time together.

All during the cruise I was hardly my normal self, in fact it really knocked me out of my center.  My weight is up,  I’m feeling aches and pains and generally don’t feel like my normal self even now that I’m back at home.  I realize that a week of eating and drinking everything in sight while skimping on sleep was probably not a good idea.  Yet why did I do it anyway?

If you have been on a cruise before you know that the environment creates temptation in all directions – food displays, drinks brought to you poolside, music, lights, gambling, shows, lounging and more food.  Without a daily routine or sense of normal, it’s easy to fall into an unhealthy pattern.

Cruise ships are also full of electromagnetic energy – TVs, videos, lights, engines, loudspeakers, fans and tons of people.  Our ship had over 4000 passengers and another 1200 crew members.  There is a feeling of being scrambled just from that.  I found it hard to do my yoga in the tiny stateroom and my journalling stopped completely in spite of my best intentions.  On the plus side, being on the water had a healing effect that brought me some calm.  Thank goodness for that.

This new week is dedicated to undoing the damage with a fresh start and attention to sleep, activity, healthy food, lots of water, journalling and my daily spiritual practice.  It’s my favorite time of year as the summer solstice arrives and I am hopeful that one week of misbehavior can be un-done in about a week’s time.  Wish me well!

Summer Begins

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

Today is the last day of school for my daughter and all of the other students in our district. It’s funny how that collective energy of all those excited kids hits me as I consider that summer really starts tomorrow for my household and so many people.

There are always a few mixed feelings for parents – now that the kids have more time on their hands.  Sleeping patterns shift, new activities come into life with summer sports, camps and the opening of the swimming pools.  Vacations and days off will be taken.  That is the beauty of summer and the promise of those warm days ahead.

Summer is among my favorite seasons as a gardener and a person who loves being outside in nature (without the distraction of freezing, chapping and shivering).  I am reminding myself now to really pay attention to each day and to use my precious summer wisely.

I promised myself these 10 things today to create my BEST summer ever:

1.  I will awaken early each day

2.  I’ll do my morning journal outside whenever possible

3.  I will exercise or walk outside, and include my dog Gracie

4.  I’ll sit on my front bench and watch the world go by

5.  I’ll book time on my calendar for outdoor fun and trips  to Lake Erie

6.  I’ll share my summer expectations with my kids and ask them to help me

7.  I’ll grill often

8.  I’ll take my laptop outdoors

9.  I’ll do more ponytails and dress comfortably

10.  I’ll ask clients if they want to move coaching sessions under the tent outside

I’ll be heading out for a vacation cruise next week – so summer will be off to a fantastic start.  As for the rest of the summer, look for me outside!

Living Trust

Monday, June 4th, 2007

Trust is a topic worthy of consideration.  In business you want your clients and customers to trust you.  As a customer, you want to trust the people you choose to do business with.  Trust defines and binds individuals together in extremely positive ways.   When you can fully trust others, you are safe, secure and fairly treated, which feels great.

Trust is a skill that also applies to the Law of Attraction.   We attract what we are, what we think and what we believe.  We ask for more and we wait patiently for the universe to respond.

Does getting what we ask for make us more trusting and more safe?  In many ways it does. Getting what we ask for lets us know that the universe does respond.  Noticing when we get what we ask for can be the greater challenge.  Successful attraction requires living in the present – something that we know is good, but yet have trouble doing.

It is often said, “Be Careful What You Wish For“.  Nothing could be more true, yet it goes way beyond this.  Just wishing isn’t enough.  Our emotions must be positive and uplifting in order for the best outcomes to take shape.  Doubts and deception can get in the way.

What if the universe doesn’t provide the response we hoped for – or perhaps gives no response at all? Did we send the wrong signal, were our signals mixed up or did we miss the response sent our way?  Feeling trust is hard when we become impatient.  Worries start to dominate our thinking as we allow doubt to creep in.  Doubt sends a signal too – which shuts down the attraction process we thought we had put into motion.

It is said that there are really only two emotions – love and fear.  Trust is just another form of love.  Doubt is a lonely feeling that is a variation of fear.  If we decide we wish to be more trusting, we must act in a way that attracts trust, we must think in terms of trusting unconditionally and behave as though the universe is responding to our trusting requests.

Believe it is so.  Feel the joyful vibration of receiving what you have asked for rather than the fear of being without.  Catch yourself in the moment of doubtful thinking – and transform those doubts to hopeful affirmations.  Say it, feel it and experience it in the present.

Here are some affirmations to allow emotions of security, love and trust to come through:

The universe responds to my requests

I safely express my needs from a place of joy

The health of my body responds to my thoughts and words in positive ways

I am the creator of my experience.  I choose to create what is best for all involved.

I notice the subtle, good things that are happening in each moment.

My positive thoughts bring the perfect people, resources and ideas to my life

My life is full of beauty for which I am grateful

I share my good fortune with others and radiate it through my spirit.
